You don’t have to be a mechanical genius to know that if you run out of diesel or the engine stops because of a clogged filter, you are probably going to have to bleed it to get it going again. Most modern engines bleed from the engine fuel filter which is often found high up on the block. Crack the nut at the top. Open it a turn or so, then follow the diesel line towards the tank from the filter until you come to a small pump low down on the side of the engine with a handle sticking out of it. It will probably be the next fitting you reach. Pump this handle up and down and you’ll see bubbly diesel coming out from under the nut. Keep pumping until the diesel runs out clear of air, then tighten the nut. Now crank the engine as if you mean it and with any luck it’ll start.
