Here’s a proper red sky and it’s at night, promising sailors a day of delight after breakfast in the morning. Actually, what it shows is that you can’t always rely on ancient lore. For the old adage to hold good, it really needs a fairly clear sky to go with it. The one in the photograph, messy as it is, came backed up by a falling barometer and lived up to its ugly looks. It dished up torrential rain overnight that kept going all the way into the following afternoon. A sky like this in the morning leaves no doubts. It should have anyone within reach of a harbour scurrying for cover!
