It’s a sensible policy to rig warps and fenders in good time. Sailing along with them over the side well before you arrive is not so bright, however. It exposes them needlessly to the wash of your progress, and it looks terrible. The answer is to rig them ready, then flip them inside the guardrails onto the side decks. As the crew go forward to take the dock lines ashore, they’ve only to kick them under the wires and anyone can tell the boat is run by sailors.
