It is unusual for a modern yacht to lie a’hull in a storm, but if this should ever be your lot, lash your helm amidships. If you lash the tiller to leeward and the boat should gather way, she will probably luff up towards the crest of a sea. She will stall before she reaches the top and then be thrown astern onto her rudder. If this is not secured in the yacht’s fore-and-aft line either it or the steering gear may suffer damage.
